'Cinderella' still heartwarming, but go old school with video version

At 20 years old, I popped open the old plastic carton of the "Cinderella" VHS for the first time in at least nine years and transported myself back to a childhood of footed pajamas, my favorite toys and watching movies with my family on Saturday nights. To celebrate today's DVD re-release of the 1950 Disney film, I watched the grainy tape with a sense of reality far from that of my youth.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm an unabashed fan of ABC's "Desperate Housewives." I didn't jump on the bandwagon after the first episode - I knew this show was going to be good when last fall's new season was announced. My love for the show increased tenfold when it was announced Alfre Woodard would be joining the cast.

'Hardly Working': Fun, but be careful

Chris Morran doesn't want you to ruin your college experience. So the University of Virginia alumnus has written a whole handbook, "Hardly Working at College: The Overachieving Underperformer's Guide to Graduating Without Cracking a Book," which details how to be what he calls an "overachieving underperformer." In "Hardly Working," Morran outlines how to get through college with as little work as possible, including tips on how to pick classes, sneak into class late, avoid getting called on and how to let your parents think study abroad is really about studying. Don't expect to breeze right through the book and into the bar instead of 12:40 p.m.

Mock documentary "Mail Order Wife" reinforces the worn-out stereotype that all men are sleazy and women are deceitful. The DVD will be released tomorrow to enlighten the citizens of the United States that it's not a clever plan to purchase a woman from some random Asian country to marry.

The MSU School of Music is trying to help in the aftermath of the recent hurricane devastation. On Sunday, jazz professors, MSU School of Music faculty and a variety of guest performers will pay tribute to the distinct New Orleans-style of jazz music with "Tribute to New Orleans," a concert benefiting the New Orleans music scene and victims of the hurricanes. The concert is at 3 p.m.

The Minor Fall's latest falls short of live performances

There are some bands that sound better live than on the album. The Minor Fall is definitely one of those bands. The band is pure emo rock - a group of guys from Lansing playing songs about "running out of time" and having "a loss of words." And the album is mellower than the band's more enjoyable live performances. "The City, The City" is The Minor Fall's latest full-length.
