RHA elects vice president

The Residence Halls Association, or RHA, elected another student to its leadership ranks Wednesday night, as the group begins to build its executive board for the 2012-13 year.

E.L. council elections affect student life

The city council and school board elections are taking place this Tuesday. Although most students are not affected by the school board election, voting in the city council election is one of the many ways students can participate in the community where they live and study.

ASMSU closes polls, reveals voting results

Students voted in favor of renewing ASMSU’s student tax and continuing the group’s newspaper Readership Program, while also electing new representatives following the organization’s weeklong spring elections. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. Association Director Kara Spencer said about 2.8 percent — or about 1,000 undergraduate students — participated in the elections, which ran April 4-11. The renewal of ASMSU’s tax — $16.75 per undergraduate student — passed with 758 students approving.

ASMSU announces election results

Students have voted in favor of renewing ASMSU’s $16.75 tax, an extra $1.25 tax for the Readership Program and to approve the constitutional amendments to postpone implementation of 501©(3) status and to reinstate a temporary Academic Assembly. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. 758 students voted in favor of the $16.25 tax renewal, with 164 students voting against it and 49 abstaining. 797 students voted in favor of the $1.25 tax for the Readership Program, which provides four daily newspapers free of charge for students on campus.

ASMSU cited as violating constitution with election

University officials said Monday ASMSU’s recent special election to approve a merger of the Student and Academic assemblies was in violation of ASMSU’s own constitution. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. Denise Maybank, senior associate vice president for Student Affairs and Services, said because the merger’s constitutional change was approved during a special election in early March — not during regularly scheduled spring elections, which take place in early April — ASMSU violated its constitution.

ASMSU's Academic Assembly selects new leaders

It was out with the old and in with the new during Academic Assembly’s officer elections Tuesday night. After ____ hours, Justin Epstein, Zachary Taylor and Chris Noffze officially ended their first meeting as chairperson and vice chairpersons of internal and external affairs, respectively. ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government. Each candidate was allowed 10 minutes for a speech followed by a 20 minute question and answer session. Epstein, who represented the Eli Broad College of Business during the 18th session, was elected 15-2 over College of Social Science representative Michael Lipphardt. Taylor, who represented James Madison College, ran unopposed for the position of vice chairperson of internal affairs and was elected by a vote of 16-0-0. The eventual vice chairperson of external affairs, Noffze, was part of the longest debate of the night.

ASMSU assemblies to hold officer elections

Beginning at Tuesday night’s Academic Assembly meeting, ASMSU will spend this week deciding who will lead the organization’s assemblies during the 2010-11 sessions. Academic Assembly will hold its officer elections Tuesday night and Student Assembly will hold its elections Thursday night.
