When I was younger, the United States always seemed like the place where things worked.
MSU hockey has been a thing of wonder this season. But following the injury to senior forward captain Red Savage, something has changed for the worse, and it seems like the Spartans are missing their captain presence.
The torch has been passed. The satchel now bears green and white. The throne once labeled “Greatest Coach in Big Ten History” now belongs to Tom Izzo.
Feb. 13, 2023, was an ordinary winter night in East Lansing — until it wasn’t. The air was crisp, and the streets were quiet as students returned to their dorms, libraries, and dining halls, finishing another routine day at Michigan State University. Then, a notification. A hurried message. A hushed murmur turning into a collective realization — something terrible was happening.
During the decade of the 2010s, Michigan State athletics reigned supreme with ranked team after ranked team. After a bit of a falloff over the past couple of years, a sudden burst of success has re-emerged MSU as a top athletic school in the nation.
On Monday, Oct. 14, the newsroom will be open to the public so the community can meet our student and professional staff and tour the newsroom.
In the coming years, we will look back on our time at MSU and know that we are vastly different people because of it. Our time spent bringing you the news might be coming to an end, but there are countless talented student journalists behind us that will keep MSU informed forever.
