Granholm, other leaders tout bioenergy study at MSU

The Plant and Soil Sciences Building played host to what might have been confused for an East Lansing red carpet event Friday, as Gov. Jennifer Granholm, Rep. Mark Meadows, D-East Lansing, and MSU President Lou Anna K. Simon were on hand to promote bioenergy research.

Canine parade breeds awareness

A band of volunteers armed with dog leashes and pooper scoopers Wednesday morning marched around downtown Lansing in hopes of bringing attention to the plight of the 20 homeless dogs following them through the city.

Sustainability-themed radio show debuts

A new radio program is broadcasting sustainability issues across the airwaves. “Greening of the Great Lakes” is a collaboration between MSU and WJR (760-AM) in Detroit and focuses on sustainability issues, said Russ White, communications manager for University Relations.

City Council talks Historic District

The East Lansing City Council will discuss whether it needs to modify part of its Historic District at its work session tonight. The work session is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Conference Room A of City Hall, 410 Abbot Road.

Home football games benefit some E.L. shops

As the MSU football team reeled off touchdowns during its first home game Saturday, local business owners said they also scored big. Home football contests traditionally bring tailgaters, students and out-of-town visitors to local restaurants and retailers before and after the game.

To many students, the end of summer means cold weather is on the way. But it also means harvest time for farmers and gardeners, and many local food banks look at this time of year as a great opportunity to get donations.
