Student organic farm to host informative event

The Student Organic Farm Harvest Fest will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The farm was created in 1999 to provide information to students regarding organically grown food. Events featured at the festival include fresh food, hayrides, farm tours, cider-pressing, face-painting and a pie-eating contest, among other things. The festival will feature live music from local bands Head and Toe, A Story Told and Dali Rocket. The farm is located at 3291 College Road in Holt.

Groups to celebrate 'Indigenous Peoples'

Most calendars identify Oct. 9 as Columbus Day. However, some students on campus refer to the day as Indigenous Peoples Day instead. "We call it Indigenous People's Day because in calling it Columbus Day, you're celebrating the mass murder of people," said Ashley Harding, cultural programmer for the North American Indigenous Student Organization, or NAISO.

Type of method: Interventional radiology Basics of method: "It allows us to treat animals in a less invasive way," Beal said. The methodology allows veterinarians to perform procedures on animals without them having large incisions. Some small-breed dogs can get tracheal collapse when the cartilage in their windpipes begins to collapse, Beal said.

Computer networks to be shut down Friday

Some MSU computer networks will be shut down from 6-11 p.m. Friday for Academic Computing & Network Services to test electrical system upgrades. The online services to be affected are afs.msu.edu, Angel, LON-CAPA, Magic and Webmail.

The 49 bells of Beaumont Tower chimed as assistant carillonneur Bill McHarris played in front of an audience before the Homecoming football game. "Playing is one way to work off frustrations," McHarris said with a smile to a cramped room, as he wiped the sweat from his forehead. McHarris, an MSU professor of chemistry and physics, began playing at Beaumont Tower in 1996 and is one of six carillonneurs who regularly play at the tower. "I started out in music way back when," McHarris said.

Student group protests Coca-Cola corporation on campus

Students marched with drums in hand to the Administration Building Thursday because MSU administrators refused to cut ties with the Coca-Cola corporation. The Students for Economic Justice, or SEJ, organized the event and said about 30 people participated as they marched on the fourth floor of the building and recited chants about Coca-Cola. The group is campaigning against the soft drink company because of allegations of abusing workers' rights and murdering workers.

University spokesman Terry Denbow confirmed Tuesday there is a new assistant vice president for university relations at MSU. "We were very pleased with the amount of interest we had in the search for this position," Denbow said.

Organic farm sells produce harvest weekly

The aroma of fresh produce can be smelled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Tuesday in front of the MSU Auditorium on Farm Lane. The scent comes courtesy of the Student Organic Farm stand, which is put on weekly by the Ecological Food and Farm Stewardship. The stand offers organic fruits and vegetables grown locally at the Student Organic Farm, which is located 3 miles south of campus.

Vocal group to sing this weekend

The MSU Accafellas will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Fairchild Theater. The concert will be held in celebration of the organization's 10th anniversary, member Matt Tanski said. The MSU Accafellas is one of MSU's premier all-male a capella groups.

Dinosaur Dash to be held Sunday morning

The MSU Federal Credit Union Dinosaur Dash will take place at 10 a.m. Sunday at the MSU Museum. Proceeds from the 5K race will benefit education programs at the MSU Museum, which houses the area's only full-mounted stegosaurus and allosaurus casts. The event will also include the Museum Mile, for children ages 12 and younger, and the Mini-Dash, a 200-yard race for children 6 and younger. The MSU Federal Credit Union has helped raise more than $200,000 since the company began sponsoring the event more than 20 years ago.
