ASMSU hosting voter registration competition among student groups

The Associated Students of Michigan State University's, or ASMSU's, voter registration competition will allow college-affiliated registered student organizations, or RSOs, the Council of Racial and Ethnic Students, or CORES, and the Council of Progressive Students, COPS, groups to compete for $500.SF Starting Oct. 2, certain college-affiliated groups on campus will begin registering students to vote. Whichever group registers the most students before Oct. 9 will win $500 from ASMSU.

Renovation of Case Hall study lounge has students mixed on updates and look

Renovations completed during the summer in Case Hall have been a blessing and a curse depending on which James Madison College student you talk to. During the summer, Case Hall’s north and south lounges were renovated. Old sofas and armchairs were replaced with modular furniture and large study tables, and murals have replaced what was once exposed brick.

MSU granted $1.2 million to teach less-common languages

MSU has been granted $1.2 million to develop new less commonly taught language courses. Center for Language Teaching Advancement, or CeLTA, faculty have been awarded funding by the Mellon Foundation for 38 months to create new language programs through a partnership with the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Though MSU already offers 29 less-commonly taught languages, or LCTLs, CeLTA faculty hope to add many more, including Armenian, Burmese, Gaelic, Hmong, Serbo-Croatian and Sinhala, according to the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages’ website.
