MSU thumps Bowling Green for 2nd straight win

It was a tale of two halves for the MSU men’s soccer team Wednesday. The Spartans played the first half without a sense of urgency, but came out of the gates flying in the second half, scoring both goals within the first six minutes en route to a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.

Lighter Nix could be force inside for MSU

What would have happened if Derrick Nix hadn’t taken this summer seriously? Nix, a freshman center on the MSU men’s basketball team, knows exactly what would have happened if he hadn’t dropped 30 pounds — and counting — since his arrival in East Lansing. Or if he hadn’t done extra cardio on his own after working out with teammates. Or if he had consumed more than just cereal, Nutrigrain bars and liquids after 6 p.m. in an effort to get into shape.

Guess what, MSU? The Spartans are back in the thick of the Big Ten race. Following a 1-3 start, the team has roared back with three straight wins, including Saturday’s 24-14 triumph against Northwestern.
