Tickets for journalist and conservative speaker Milo Yiannopoulos’ Dec 7 appearance at MSU are now available on Eventbrite.com. Yiannopoulos, currently tech editor at Breitbart News, has become a controversial figure among many for his views on feminism, free speech and campus culture.

Number of women in STEM increases at MSU

The number of women enrolled in MSU’s College of Engineering reach 21 percent this year, up from 18 percent last year. This increase is part of an ongoing trend at MSU and other universities of more women showing interest in STEM fields. MSU Women in Engineering Director of Student Success Judy Cordes called this trend “fantastic”.

New app connects students on campus

Finding friends can be a struggle for new students at a university as large as MSU, but an app developed by professional writing senior Zoe Zappitell has come along to help with that problem. Zappitell, president of the Women in Entrepreneurship student group, wanted to develop an app that would help students connect with each other, so she created the event-based app Conecter that helps students find people on campus who share their interests.

MSU gymnastics team physician accused of sexual abuse

An MSU professor and team physician for women's gymnastics, women's crew and a former USA Gymnastics team physician has been accused on two separate counts of sexual abuse. Dr. Larry G. Nassar, who volunteered for USA Gymnastics for 29 years, teaches sports medicine in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Nassar, who is an associate professor in MSU’s Department of Radiology, denied the allegations.

Sparticipation rescheduled for Sept. 18 at Breslin

Sparticipation has been officially rescheduled. The much anticipated event, geared heavily towards getting freshmen involved on campus, will now take place at the Breslin Student Events Center this sunday, September 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

MSU filmmakers win Student Academy Award

 A team of MSU students won a Student Academy Award for their documentary, “From Flint: Voices of a Poisoned City.”ch The film started as a capstone project, media and information senior and director of the film Elise Conklin said. Producer Liv Larsen, a 2016 journalism alumna, and director of photography Izak Gracy pitched a documentary about the Flint water crisis to their classmates. “As soon as that idea was on the table, there was nothing that could compete with it in my eyes,” Conklin said.

MSU Bikes Center out of used bikes, low on new and rentals

Looking for a used bike to help you get around campus? Well, you might have a while to wait. Both the MSU Bikes Service Center and the MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center are out of used bikes. While the MSU Bikes Service Center and MSU Surplus Store and Recycling Center are sold out of used bikes - they’re also running low on new ones and rentals. “Used bikes are in high demand, and we unfortunately don’t have any used bikes,” sustainable transportation manager at the MSU Bikes Service Center Tim Potter said.

MSU Board of Trustees approves budget for $46 million data center

On Thursday, September 8th, the MSU Board of Trustees officialized the budget for a $46,000,000 construction project, entitled “Data Center - Business Continuity and High Performance Computing.” “The facility will help us better support the ever-growing use of university technology, whether that be on research, education or outreach.” Associate Vice President of Information Technology and Interim Chief Information Officer Rob McCurdy said.

MSU plans to use $1 million grant toward counseling services

MSU has received a $1 million grant in order to improve college counseling. The grant comes from the National Science Foundation and will be used to develop a system known as iSee. Researchers from the Colleges of Engineering and Communication Arts and Sciences, as well as the MSU Counseling Center, are contributing to the project.
