The Spartans took care of business last Saturday, defeating Maryland 40-21 at Spartan Stadium. All of the teams previously ranked ahead of MSU won, resulting in minimal shuffling at the top of the College Football Playoff Rankings including Michigan State, remaining at the No. 7 slot.

“It’s a play,” Michigan State Head Coach Mel Tucker said after MSU defeated Rutgers last month. “It's like running inside zone or outside zone or running counter. It’s another play. If they don’t cover it then it's going to be open.”
Trailing by 13, Maryland’s offense was marching down the field to begin the second half. Maryland reached MSU territory in three plays and seemed poised to cut the deficit to one score.
