Three gift cards and $60 were among the contents in a wallet stolen from Berkey Hall on Wednesday, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. A female employee reported that cash, gift cards from Ann Taylor, Banana Republic and Costco Wholesale totaling $185, and several credit cards and forms of identification were in the $100 Hobo wallet, McGlothian-Taylor said. The employee left a room in the building at 11:30 a.m. for five minutes and returned to find her wallet and Coach change purse missing, McGlothian-Taylor said. The door to the room was closed but unlocked at the time.

A block “M” similar to that of the University of Michigan logo was spray-painted onto the base of the Sparty statue sometime between midnight and 6 a.m. Thursday, MSU police Sgt. Matt Merony said. MSU Grounds Maintenance have cleaned the logo off the statue, Merony said. A report was taken by MSU police. There are no suspects in the painting, Merony said. The vandalization comes less than a week after the Spartans dropped a home game to the Wolverines, 28-24.

While MSU’s heartbreaking demise to Michigan last Saturday caused MSU fans to endure a wave of pestilent mockery and unchecked hubris statewide, one group of on-campus workers felt the loss in terms of dollars and cents.

It’s been a recurring theme in this year’s Heisman Trophy watch: new week, new leader. And why stop now? After Boston College’s 27-17 loss to Florida State, Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon overcomes the East Coast bias to jump into the No. 1 slot in this week’s Heisman watch.

Tick-tock, tick-tock. The clock is winding down on the Spartans’ football season, and the team is checking to see if it improperly adjusted the clock after daylight saving time ended. Can the season really be two games away from completion? If the Spartans don’t win either game to become bowl eligible, then yes. The clock hasn’t treated the Spartans kindly this season. In four of its five losses, MSU was at least tied with its opponent in the final frame. Against Michigan, the Spartans owned a fourth-quarter advantage. Only No. 1 Ohio State had a lead throughout the entire game.

The push for the discontinuation of domestic partner benefits is a display of bigotry and ignorance by the people of Michigan. To infer that domestic partner benefits should not be allowed to homosexuals, as they somehow pose a threat to marriage and will ultimately destroy this country, is unjust and unfounded. I also have read that people feel as though tax dollars should not be used to support domestic partner benefits, and people such as Jessica Byrom believe that benefits should be extended to everyone on earth if they are extended to homosexuals because she has to carry 12 credits to maintain health coverage under her parents.

I am writing in response to the recent article MSU right-wing groups accused of anti-discrimination violation (SN 11/6). A claim that an organization on campus has violated the MSU anti-discrimination policy should be a very serious situation. Therefore, it also should be a requirement that those doing the accusing can at least cite an event during which discrimination occurred. How can such an important accusation be taken seriously if there is not even an event cited where such discrimination occurred? Those doing the accusing are making a mockery of the entire system. The entire system is losing all credibility by targeting an organization that hasn’t broken any rules.
