Stress-free study tips
A positive or negative mindset can determine the effectiveness of a study session, and your final exam grade. Here are some studying and test-taking tips for tranquility and clarity during final’s season:
Study as if you were taking the exam, in half-hour to hour bursts without distraction.
Stay off Facebook during studying. Sidetracking can ruin focus and learning retention.
If study music is a must, pick soothing classical or ambient music. Erik Satie’s “Gymnopédies” and Brian Eno’s “Ambient 1: Music for Airports” are suggested.
Call family or a close friend during lulls in studying.
If studying in solitude proves lonely, find a friend in a similar situation.
Avoid excessive coffee. Going above and beyond the routine dosage could produce negative physiological side effects.
Sleep an adequate amount the night before the exam. This requires forethought.
If the exam is early, wake up two hours prior to allow mental alertness.
Prepare, and eat, a home-cooked feast before the exam.
When arriving to the exam, devote extra time for a detour through nature.
Know one exam will not shatter your college career or GPA, but it can help both.
