Although many spend some of summer vacation taking online classes, here are five reasons why we should break from university studies during summer.
1. A Breather
The school year can be relentless. Often times relaxing and participating in hobbies takes a backseat to the nearly endless list of projects, exams, homework, readings and house chores.
Having the summer to kick back and enjoy hobbies is valuable. Pursuing those interests normally set aside for school can be both reinvigorating and relaxing.
2. Online Misery
With less courses offered during the summer, and most of them being online, taking several courses is not worth it unless graduation hinges on their completion.
It's hard to be enthused about school when the course taken is either online or undesired. And online homework becomes more about getting it done than learning when the sun is out and friends are calling.
3. Work Conflict
Most work more hours in the summer to make up for lost earnings during the school year. If done in addition to several courses, summer vacation loses its meaning and its value.
4. Family and Friends
Although putting school work aside for the summer allows for Netflix binges and sleeping in all day, it also frees time for planning and taking taking trips with friends or visiting grandma — things hard to accomplish with the background anxieties of classes.
5. Other Studies
Having a break from all the required readings and studies of university courses allows for learning outside of the curriculum.
Breaking out the reading list and traveling through it, page by page, can lend new perspectives to university studies.
