One night to let loose
This Halloween, I took it upon myself to change my personality, my perspective and the way my friends perceive me.
I chose, and ended up discovering, my “alter ego” as Lisbeth from “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”
Wearing a short-haired black wig, dark, thick eyeliner, a plastic lip ring, a ragged T-shirt and gothic tattoos randomly positioned on my pale skin, I took to the streets of East Lansing last weekend with the mindset of the angry, intelligent and clever bad girl clad in black.
Which, for those who know me well, is a drastically different demeanor than I typically portray.
For one night, the happy, outgoing blonde-haired girl took a vacation.
It was a thrill, and it worked.
The dropped chins, double takes and overwhelming state of surprise as someone greeted me and couldn’t quite tell who it was — those were the things that put me more into character.
I know many girls on Halloween opt to be bunnies or kitties or other “slutty” animals. But when your roommate legitimately is dressing as a Juggalo, one isn’t necessarily left with the option to be cute and fluffy.
Ultimately, I’m beyond glad I chose an edgier costume this Halloween.
Now I realize there’s more to me than the soft, kind, happy Sam I am on a day-to-day basis.
It’s comforting to know that somewhere inside of me there is a drastically darker alter ego.
