New York Times Publisher A. G. Sulzberger will be a speaker in the next installment of Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz' Presidential Speaker Series on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
The conversation will touch on the "enduring importance of a free press and independent reporting at a time when political polarization, artificial intelligence and rapid technological change are reshaping journalism and how people engage with information," according to a press release signed by Guskiewicz.
Sulzberger is a part of a long-standing journalist dynasty as the sixth member of his family to serve as The New York Times publisher. Sulzberger began working for The New York Times in 2009, after reporting at The Oregonian for three years. He was a key contributor to the paper's 2014 Innovation Report, which assessed the future of the organization in the face of the digital age's expedited development.
As publisher, Sulzberger has overseen the work of over 20 Pulitzer prizes at The New York Times.
Guskiewicz and Sulzberger will convene at Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. The event is free, but requires advanced registration.
The first Presidential Speaker Series, which took place in March of this year, consisted of a panel of higher education representatives and advocates.
