The MSU Board of Trustees meet in Benton Harbor, Mich., on June 12, 2026.
Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees is set to vote on multiple construction projects, as well as appointments and title changes for some of the university’s top positions, at its September meeting this Friday.
The board will also consider expanding the current Williams Scholar program, which awards full merit scholarships to around 30 students each year.
The Sept. 11 meeting marks the first open board meeting since President Kevin Guskiewicz decided he would stay at MSU instead of leaving for Clemson University.
The meeting follows the annual Board stakeholder engagement forum, where about 50 faculty, students and university leaders will meet behind closed doors to discuss pre-determined topics. Last year, participants discussed community outreach engagement, research and student success initiatives.
The Sept. 11 meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the Hannah Administration Building.
Construction planning
The board will be voting on a $24.2 million transportation services building, which is a small step toward the university’s “Spartan Stadium Modernization” project.
The building will house vehicle operations that are currently placed in Spartan Stadium and will be largely funded through long-term debt.
The Spartan Stadium Modernization project is a university initiative focused on upgrading the school’s football venue through the "For Sparta" fundraising campaign.
Title changes
The board is set to vote on the appointments of three university administrators, including new Athletic Director Dan Bartholomae and Vice President of Government Relations Katie John. The agenda also includes the appointment of Jonathan Yorkowitz, as associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students.
Additionally, the board will decide on title changes for four other administrators.
For Lyman Briggs College, current Associate Dean Ryan Sweeder is up for a title change to acting dean of the residential college.
Alexis Travis is proposed to become senior associate vice president of University Health and Wellbeing. Her current title is Assistant Provost and Assistant VP of University Health and Wellbeing.
Norm Hubbard is proposed to become senior vice president for Health Partnerships, a change from his current title of Senior Vice President for MSU Health Sciences.
Within the Office of the President, Michael Zeig is proposed to have the additional title of acting executive vice president for administration. Zeig currently serves as the Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President.
