Michigan State University has selected a firm to conduct a university-wide assessment of how it handles relationship violence and sexual misconduct.
Guidepost Solutions, a global firm that specializes in investigations, will conduct a “comprehensive evaluation of MSU’s culture” for an “Institutional Assessment and Responsive Action”, according to a press release sent out on April 9.
In documents obtained by The State News in October, Guidepost would cost MSU an estimated $1,760,000 to $2,630,000. Implementing its recommendations would increase the total cost to approximately $2,010,000 to $2,980,000, according to the firm’s proposal.
The board tasked with selecting a firm spent months seeking input from the “greater survivor community.” Following the assessment, the firm will present its findings to the public.
After beginning with surveys of the MSU community this spring, the firm will host town halls and listening sessions over the summer and throughout the fall 2026 semester.
The assessment aims to ensure historical accountability by acknowledging past institutional failures, evaluating progress and identifying problem areas.
Plans for the assessment were announced in May 2025 by a newly established advisory board made up, in part, of Nassar survivors who, at the time, MSU said would lead the effort.
This will be another attempt to measure campus climate.
MSU launched the “Know More” survey in January, which garnered 10,500 responses. The survey provided new data on campus sexual misconduct and the university’s handling of it.
“We welcome and encourage full and candid participation from our campus community. This process is designed for meaningful, forward-looking action and will be conducted with attention to privacy and confidentiality,” MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz wrote in a campus wide email.
