Michigan State hockey's junior goaltender Trey Augustine has been named a finalist for the 2026 Mike Richter Award, given to the best goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s college hockey.

This is Augustine’s fourth accolade this week as he was named a semifinalist for the 2026 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team on Wednesday.

Augustine has been a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award all three of his collegiate seasons, and is now a finalist for the second consecutive season.

Goaltenders Michael Hrabal of UMass and Josh Kotai of Augustana are the two other award finalists. Augustine is the only two-time finalist among the group.

The winner will be announced on April 10, 2026 in Las Vegas during the Frozen Four.

Augustine makes a case for the Mike Richter Award with the performance that led to his other accolades.

Augustine’s numbers stand among the best in the nation. His .929 save percentage is No. 6 in the country, along with a 2.08 goals-against average that ranks No. 11.

The other finalists rank higher than Augustine in those categories, but his .734 winning percentage tops both of them at No. 5 in the nation.

Augustine led the Big Ten across all goaltender categories, save percentage, goals-against average and shutouts. MSU’s penalty-kill unit also led all Big Ten teams during conference play, backed by Augustine.

He has helped MSU to three straight Big Ten regular-season championships, holding a 16-6-2 career record against top-five opponents and a 36-18-2 mark against all ranked teams. Augustine has 65 career victories, tied for the most by an active Division I men’s hockey goaltender, despite competing in 16 fewer contests than his counterpart.
