Among eight other bills passed Thursday evening, ASMSU passed two bills to amend Title Four of the ASMSU manual to include new criteria for the Activity Department to allow them to get funding.
Additionally, the General Assembly (GA) passed a bill to amend Title Six of Student Allocations Board (SAB) code of operations to include the criteria required to become an activity department. Groups will now go through a process of signing up, presenting to SAB and the GA and receiving new funding through this amended process.
The Activity Department, previously only composed of CORES/CAMS groups, had its funding frozen, and ASMSU has been making efforts to regenerate that funding. With this bill passed, ASMSU made strides toward reopening that funding for the new Activity Department next semester.
Eight other bills were passed as well:
- 62-41: Consent approval for GA appointments
- 62-24: Allocation for suicide prevention signs at parking garages
- 62-33: Advocate for faculty to release course syllabi two weeks before start of semester
- 62-34: Call on trustees to stop replacing public board meetings with private stakeholder forums
- 62-35: Allocation of $3,000 from general fund for Big 10 Conference
- 62-38: Waive parts of financial code of operation for members of Constitutional Review Committee
- 62-39: Amend Title Two, Section 11, of ASMSU code to establish biannual state of student body address from ASMSU President
- 62-40: Advocate for integration of What3Words technology into SafeMSU mobile app
There were also five presentations made to the GA, four of which were made by ASMSU representatives, discussing internal affairs and resources available to the GA.
The fifth presentation was made by Laura Rugless, VP for Civil Rights, and Rob Kent, assistant VP for Investigation, Support and Resolution. They spoke about Title IX of the civil rights law and OCR initiatives, diving into impact-related policy and process improvements, disability and accessibility policy training and the data dashboard.
Furthermore, The Office of the President (OOTP) Review Board announced its findings on a recent survey, and the GA gave positive feedback to members of the OOTP.
