Michigan State University’s Department of Police and Public Safety says it has received no information indicating Immigration and Customs Enforcement is present on campus.
Spokesperson Nadia Vizueta said Thursday that MSU has not been notified of ICE activity at the university and has not received reports beyond general rumors.
Unverified posts about possible enforcement actions spread across local forums and group chats throughout the day. None of those reports included confirmed arrests or documented activity on university property.
A local television station reported ICE activity in Meridian Township.
Several student organizations — including Sunrise and MSU Democrats — circulated advisories urging students to be cautious and to look out for one another. Each noted they had not confirmed ICE’s presence or activities on the MSU campus.
Culturas de las Razas Unidas (CRU) released a statement on their Instagram on Thursday, letting members know about the rumors circulating regarding ICE's presence on campus and in the surrounding areas.
CRU President Rafael Gordillo Serrano said the group was told ICE was on campus near Erickson Hall and Brody neighborhood.
MSU police and administration said ICE was not on campus on Thursday.
"As the largest Hispanic/Latino serving organization here on campus, we take matters like this seriously and are always ready to provide the community with information," Serrano said.
