No. 8-ranked Michigan State University gymnastics is headed to the second round of the 2025 NCAA Regionals in University Park, Pennsylvania, as the No. 2 seed.
The Spartans will compete in the first session on Thursday, April 3, at 1 p.m. against No. 9 Kentucky, Ohio State and host Penn State.
MSU enters regionals with a 24-4 overall record and an 8-1 mark in Big Ten competition. The Spartans defeated both Ohio State and Penn State during the 2025 regular season and at the Big Ten Championships. They have faced Kentucky three times in program history and are 0-3 all-time against the Wildcats.
Head coach Mike Rowe says when going into competition, he keeps the team in a ‘this is just another meet’ mindset.
"Business as usual kind of thing, because I have talked about this, its psychological," Rowe said. "We want them to feel their best going into the meet on any given day. That its all about us and no one else matters. Anything we can do to bring out the best in them."
At the Big Ten Championships, MSU posted its highest road score and season-best overall mark of 198.150, finishing second in the meet. The Spartans also recorded season highs on floor (49.600) and beam (49.500), with multiple gymnasts earning individual accolades.
This marks the Spartans’ fourth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and their highest seeding in program history. Over the last four seasons, MSU has reached the regional final consistently, finishing third three times. Last season, the Spartans placed fourth.
"We have the potential of doing some great things, last year was proof of that," Rowe said. "We basically have our same team with additional strength, talent, and consistency. So, they know that, they believe in that and I think their excited to get there and just do it and see what plays out."
MSU is coming off a historic 2025 season and will aim to win the University Park Regional. The meet will stream live on ESPN+.
If they advance, the Spartans will compete at the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, from April 17-19.
