The Associated Students of Michigan State University wrapped up their Office of the President elections for the 62nd session Tuesday evening.

The role of vice president of internal administration was filled by political science pre-law junior Madaline Hanes, and the role of vice president of student allocations was taken on by supply chain management junior Venkata Rayapeddi.

Both candidates ran unopposed.

Vice president of internal administration

If elected, Hanes said she would expand the influence of ASMSU on campus and foster growth through General Assembly-led community initiatives, collaborative marketing projects and engaging in productive conversations with the administration.

"We have a definitive need for more student voices in ASMSU and our university as a whole," she said. "We have a problem within ASMSU where people need to seek us out to learn about the opportunities we can provide for them."

Hanes said the student government has a responsibility to make its resources available to all students, rather than a select number of students who are aware of ASMSU’s resources. Hanes would work to increase outreach for underrepresented student populations, she said.

"I see ASMSU’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as not only beneficial to maintain a welcoming culture, but necessary for the growth and development of the organization as a whole," Hanes said. "Incorporating DEI as the VPIA is a responsibility that I do not take lightly."

Hanes was elected by the General Assembly via unanimous consent.

Vice president of student allocations

Rayapeddi, prior to running, said she has been involved with the Student Allocations Board since her sophomore year, where she worked first as a board member and then as a Registered Student Organization (RSO) consultant. Through this work, Rayapeddi learned how to effectively communicate with RSOs.

"I was able to connect a lot of groups to resources they didn't even realize they had, and seeing how that helped them grow has been so rewarding," she said. "As VPSA, I want to strengthen the connection between RSOs and ASMSU, improve communication channels and make it easier for students to access tools they need to bring ideas to life."

Rayapeddi was elected by the General Assembly via unanimous consent.
