Claims of an individual with a gun in West Holden Hall that circulated on social media early Sunday morning were deemed false, according to the MSU Department of Police and Public Safety.

MSU DPPS spokesperson Nadia Vizueta said MSU police officers were instead at Holden Hall because of a physical altercation between individuals outside the building.

"The officers were able to arrest the suspect in the incident," Vizueta said in a text. "This incident did not involve a weapon or firearm and those rumors are false."

The original rumor on social media stemmed from a post on the MSU 2027 Snapchat story that claimed police officers were chasing an individual with a gun out as well as clearing out the hall. The rumors also circulated on Yik Yak, a campus anonymous posting app.
