The No. 7 Michigan State University gymnastics team delivered a commanding performance against Rutgers, securing a 197.475-196.275 victory at Jenison Field House.

“We are feeling really good,” said Michigan State head coach Mike Rowe. “We were excited the way the first two events started off, we know we got things we can still work on and clean up, but we are starting to be more consistent. We are at a point in the season where the lineup is going to be solidified a little bit, but I'm very happy with the results today.”

MSU opened strong on vault, with sophomore Makayla Tucker and freshman Amy Doyle each scoring 9.850. Juniors Olivia Zsarmani and Nikki Smith followed with scores of 9.950 and 9.250, respectively.

The Spartans carried that momentum to the uneven bars, where they posted a season-high 49.575, now the second-highest score in program history. Gabrielle Stephen earned a 9.925, while Smith and Sage Kellerman each recorded 9.950.

On beam, MSU edged out Rutgers 49.300-49.200. Gianna Kelefa delivered a standout 9.925, while Skyla Schulte led the event with a near-perfect 9.950.

The Spartans closed the meet with a solid 49.150 on floor. Delanie Harkness and Stephen both earned 9.900, while Schulte anchored with a 9.925.

With the win, MSU improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in Big Ten competition, securing second place in the conference ahead of Minnesota and Michigan. This meet also marked the Spartans' final home competition against Big Ten opponents this season.

“This was huge — huge for the program and huge for everyone,” said Rowe. "Our attendance keeps growing and we are thrilled about that, and that drives the athletes to do better.”

MSU will travel to Iowa City for the Big Four meet on March 2, where they will face Iowa, Penn State and Washington.
