Michigan State football redshirt junior running back Nate Carter has declared to enter the 2025 NFL Draft, the former three-star recruit announced on social media Friday.
Six days after MSU's season ended, Carter is the first Spartan to enter the NFL Draft next spring, which begins April 25.
Carter transferred from the University of Connecticut in January 2023, recruited by ex-head coach Mel Tucker.
In 2023, Carter started all 12 games, rushing for for a team-leading 798 yards along with four touchdowns. This season, Carter split carries with sixth year running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams, rushing for 499 yards and five touchdowns while adding 173 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
In his career with UConn and MSU, Carter tallied 491 rushes for 2,280 yards with 12 touchdowns. Carter and Lynch-Adams both have one year of eligibility remaining.
MSU flipped East Lansing three-star running back Jace Clarizio back from Alabama in a suprise turn of events Wednesday morning. Clarizio has an increased chance to contribute in his first year with Carter's departure.
The Spartans will lose another notable offensive piece after starting wideout Jaron Glover announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.
