MSU football redshirt junior cornerback Charles "Chuck" Brantley has entered the transfer portal for the third time, a program spokesperson confirmed confirmed on Tuesday.
Brantley entered the transfer portal twice in 2023, first in April and again in December, but on both occasions decided to withdraw his name and remain at Michigan State.
As a prospect, the Florida native from Venice High School was a four-star and member of the 2021 recruiting class under ex-head coach Mel Tucker. He is the 14th Spartan to enter the transfer portal in the current cycle.
Brantley had an impressive 2024 season, highlighted by a record-breaking performance on Sept. 14 against Prairie View A&M, when he etched his name in Michigan State football history. Brantley returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, setting the program record for the longest interception return.
Throughout the 2024 season, Brantley proved to be a standout on defense, recording 27 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. He led the team with three interceptions, seven pass break-ups and he did not allow a single touchdown in coverage all season.
Brantley’s season was cut short by a lower left leg injury sustained on Nov. 2 against Indiana. He played 478 defensive snaps and 63 special teams snaps.
Brantley has played 30 games with the Spartans and totaled 103 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and 23 passes defended.
Brantley always spoke highly of DB coach Demetrice Martin, who is expected to leave East Lansing for a coaching job at UCLA.
