MSU football freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh and his performance Saturday has garnered the attention of the college football community.
The 17-year-old wideout was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday after finishing with eight receptions for 194 yards and one touchdown in just his second collegiate game.
The Spartans beat Maryland on a last-second field goal, moving to 2-0.
Against the Terrapins, Marsh delivered a plethora of timely catches, including a 77-yard touchdown catch-and-run to tie the game in the final five minutes, a 57-yard reception and a number of intermediate targets on MSU's finishing drive of both halves. Marsh was a key piece in MSU’s two-minute offense.
The former four-star recruit from River Rouge High School's role was increased after senior wide receiver Alante Brown suffered a long-term injury against Florida Atlantic University on Aug. 30.
Marsh's stat line against the Terrapins put him in high standings among the Spartan single-game record books. His 194 receiving yards ranked 10th all-time amongst Spartan wide receivers and second all-time amongst MSU freshman receivers.
Marsh recorded the second-highest receiving yards during week two of college football. He leads the Spartans with 205 receiving yards.
The last MSU football player to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors was quarterback Katin Houser in 2023.
