MSU Police and Public Safety answered to a hoax call regarding a bomb threat and weapons threat on campus Thursday night, leading to heavy police presence on campus in dorm buildings and surrounding areas.
MSUPD spokesperson Dana Whyte said there is no current danger or threat to the campus.
Whyte said the areas around campus that were targeted in the call were the Main Library, Brody neighborhood, Hannah Administration Building and Abbot Hall.
Whyte said that early on, the call was not “assumed to be credible” by the officers and dispatch, but police still responded to it accordingly.
Whyte said the number the call came from has a “history of doing hoax phone calls.”
This was also why there was no alert to the student body through the emergency alert system, she said.
The department and FBI worked together to confirm that the call was a hoax, according to the statement.
