The Starbucks in MSU’s Main Library opened its doors to the public Monday morning. The much-awaited opening of the coffee shop comes months after the delay of its original opening date.
“We had a couple of rushes but not as busy as we anticipated,” business sophomore Nolan Savage, the student supervisor of the Main Library’s location, said. “I don’t know if many people know that we’re fully open yet but we are. Hopefully, we’ll get busy within next week.”
The Main Library’s location was set to open at the beginning of the fall semester, but due to much-needed construction, the opening date was pushed back to spring semester 2024. The location's opening comes almost a year after it was revealed that the Wells Hall location would move to the Main Library.
“I was excited to hear that it was opening because I have some classes over here and it looks really nice,” business freshman Annie Petrak said. “You could just grab something, sit down, and do some work, which is nice.”
Petrak said with the grand opening, the location is more convenient for her in terms of distance.
“The 1885 (Place Starbucks) is kind of far, so this is definitely more convenient for me,” Petrak said.
According to MSU Eat At State’s Instagram, the main library’s location is currently unavailable to accept Combo-X-Change.
Advertising Management senior Ellie Harner said even though she uses the Starbucks app to place her order, it would be annoying if she did use Combo-X-Change.
“As long as they fix it by the end of the month, I feel like that’s fine,” Harner said.
Regarding accessibility, Harner suggested that the MSU Library add more parking space for students ordering Starbucks to avoid getting tickets.
Here are the available hours the Main Library Starbucks will operate according to MSU Eat At State’s Instagram. Following Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the hours will be expanded:
Monday - Thursday
8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Friday
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday
Noon - 5 p.m.
