Multiple police were called to Building 17 at The Landings at Chandler Crossings, an off-campus student housing hub, at around 9 p.m. on Monday night.

The police were at the apartment building for a weapons complaint, Eliott Labrador, East Lansing Police Department Jail Officer, said

A weapons complaint is a report filed with law enforcement regarding the possession, use or threat involving weapons.

However, Labrador said "there is no active shooter right now."

"Our officers are out there working on it right now," Labrador said

The leasing office of The Landings at Chandler Crossings alerted those who live there with a mass text stating

"BUILDING 17: Please remain indoors and do not enter or exit your apartment!! The Police have everything under control. If you are not on the property and live in Bldg 17, please wait to enter."

According to WILX 10, drones were circling the area and police were talking to the suspect via a megaphone
