The Roost, which was the most popular restaurant in the MSU Union food court prior to its closing in February 2023, will be moving to the International Center and opening in early January 2024, according to Associate Director of Retail Dining Gina Keilen.

Although the Union, which was one of the sites of the February campus mass shooting, reopened on April 3, the Union food court will remain closed through the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, as university administrators hope to remodel the space in which the violence occurred before reopening it to students.

According to Keilen, Culinary Services has received feedback from students who said they have missed The Roost.

“We wanted to be able to provide that option for students,” Keilen said in an email to The State News.

Keilen anticipates that the addition of The Roost will help cut down on long lines at the Subway, Panda Express and Woody’s Oasis locations in the International Center's food court. She also expects an overall increase in business for all venues in the International Center with the return of The Roost.

Staff who were employed at The Roost location in the Union food court have been moved to other operations throughout Culinary Services, Keilen said, but will be returning to work at the new location in the International Center once it opens.

The Roost will occupy a space in the International Center that has been empty for a few years, according to Keilen.
