Redshirt junior quarterback Noah Kim entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday afternoon.

Kim has followed in the footsteps of redshirt freshman quarterback Katin Houser and true freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt in entering the NCAA transfer portal. It's been an eventful past few days for new head coach Jonathan Smith as the Spartans have now seen all three quarterbacks that took the field this season enter the transfer portal.
Kim entered the 2023 season having won the starting QB spot of then Mel Tucker-led Spartans. As the season closed, Kim only had five appearances to his name with three of his games being played under former interim head coach Harlon Barnett. In the five games he featured in, Kim recorded 1,090 yards, six passing touchdowns and six interceptions before Houser took the helm.
Kim’s struggles with composure and decision-making were evident early on with Houser getting off-the-bench appearances against Central Michigan, Richmond, Washington and Maryland.
Kim started the season strong statistically, picking up wins in his first two starts of the season against weaker opponents in Central Michigan and Richmond putting up 571 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions.
However, as the quality of opponents rose, Kim struggled. In his last three games, Kim threw for 519 yards, one touchdown and six interceptions, three of which occurring in the final game he saw as a Spartan against Iowa.
Kim didn't see the field following the Spartans’ bye week, and Houser took the lead of the offense in week seven against Rutgers seeing the rest of the season out while sharing snaps with Leavitt, although Leavitt's were limited as to preserve his redshirt status.
The Spartans now only have one quarterback on their active roster not currently in the NCAA transfer portal—walk-on junior quarterback Andrew Schorfhaar. Schorfhaar has completed two passes in his career for a total of -3 yards.
Head coach Jonathan Smith will now need to go searching to rebuild his quarterback room through either recruiting or the transfer portal as the Spartans’ roster currently looks devoid of a Big Ten caliber signal caller.
