The Big Ten Conference released its schedule for the 2024, 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 football seasons Wednesday following its addition of Oregon, USC, UCLA and Washington.

2024 will mark the first season with 18 teams and no divisional format, according to the release, putting an end to the previously governing Leaders and Legends divisions.

Instead of one team from each division competing in the conference title, the 2024 Big Ten Football Championship Game will feature the top two teams in the overall conference standings at the regular season’s end, according to the release. 

Conference schedules for 2024-2028 will feature 12 projected matchups, according to the release: Michigan-Michigan State, Michigan-Ohio State, Illinois-Northwestern, Illinois-Purdue, Indiana-Purdue, Iowa-Minnesota, Iowa-Nebraska, Iowa-Wisconsin, Maryland-Rutgers, Minnesota-Wisconsin, Oregon-Washington and UCLA-USC.

“Each member institution will continue to play nine intraconference games per season, and teams will play every other conference opponent at least twice – once home and once away – and will play rotating opponents no more than three times in a five-year period,” the release said. 

Certain schools, such as Michigan, Illinois, Purdue, Minnesota and Wisconsin protected two rivalries, but Michigan State secured just one: Michigan.

While MSU will continue to oppose Michigan every year for the Paul Bunyan Trophy, the Spartans will miss out on two of its classic, annual matchups — the battle for the Old Brass Spittoon Trophy against Indiana and the Land Grant Trophy versus Penn State.

The Spartans are slated to take on the Oregon Ducks in 2024, followed by matchups with the USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins in 2025. MSU’s first in-conference contest against the Washington Huskies is scheduled for 2026.
