Michigan State basketball fans avidly comb the internet in search of Spartan memorabilia: jerseys signed by Magic Johnson, Cassius Winston’s game-worn headband, you name it. Whether it be for man caves, house decor or garden additions, Spartan alumni are always looking for something new to add to their display of Spartan pride.

Currently, they need look no further than the MSU Surplus Store, where pieces of the jumbotron that once hung above center court in the Breslin Center are now up for auction.

Christopher Hewitt, MSU surplus store operations coordinator, said that the Breslin Center is getting a new jumbotron with a more advanced screen and sound system

Instead of tossing the old one away, its parts will be won in auction by select fans willing to outbid everyone else competing for a piece of Spartan history. Talk about going green in more ways than one: it's good for the Earth, for decorative purposes and for bringing donations to the university.

Pieces of the jumbotron being auctioned off include three Spartan helmets, two signs reading "Michigan State" and two signs reading "Spartans." One of the Spartan helmets features a 10-piece build and significant dimensions: 86” in height and 74” in width. Though all morsels of the jumbotron are quite large in size and weight, the "Michigan State" sign weighs a whopping 115 lbs.

Bids for each item started at $500, with the highest at the time of publishing climbing past $2,000 with five days of bidding left.

The auctions are staggered to end between July 17 and July 19, Hewitt said

If interested in owning one of these high profile items of Spartan memorabilia, bids can be placed on the MSU Surplus Store's website.
