The Arts Council Greater Lansing, working with the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, or MACC, announced over $9,000 in grants to be given to local artists and art and culture organizations.

MACC’s minigrant Program gave awards for both Professional or Organizational Development and Arts Project. Recipients of $5,320 for Professional or Organizational Development include Chen-Yu-Huang, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Institute for Contemporary Art and artist Amanda Ward. The Capitol Harp Ensemble was awarded $4,000 through the Arts Project minigrant.

Arts Council of Greater Lansing membership and program manager Taylor Haslett said a panel of art professionals from the Lansing area reviewed the applications and awarded the grants based on the guidelines provided by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.

The Greater Lansing Arts Council offers grant opportunities twice per-year, giving aid to local individuals and groups by funding projects and project facets, such as supplies or additional fees, conferences and more.

“Any artistic medium or cultural medium is allowed or applicable,” Haslett said. “We’re looking for an applicant whose answering all of those questions using the space provided in their narrative; giving us a full, well-rounded picture of what they want to do with the project.”

The Lansing Symphony Orchestra will use the Professional or Organizational Development minigrant to send their staff to the League of American Orchestras 2023 National Conference.

“They can learn best practices in the orchestra management field, network with colleagues from across the country and develop better skills to bring back here to Lansing,” Executive Director of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra Courtney Millbrook said.

“We’re very excited to be awarded the grant, it makes it possible for staff to continue to learn,” Millbrook said, “so it’s an awesome opportunity for us and we’re very excited that the state supports it.”
