Police surround Michigan State University after an active shooting on campus on Monday, Feb. 13, 2023.

The suspect in a mass shooting on Michigan State University's campus that has left three dead and multiple injured is dead, MSUPD interim deputy chief Chris Rozman confirmed at 12:38 a.m. at a press briefing.

There is no longer a threat to campus as there was only one believed shooter, Rozman said. The shelter-in-place order is lifted.

"I will conclude by saying this is still a fluid situation, there are several different crime scenes that we are processing with our state and federal partners," Rozman said.

The suspect is a 43-year-old male and is not affiliated in any way with MSU. Investigators and officers are still working to determine his identity. Police are still working to identify the victims of the shooting.

MSU police said all five injured victims at Sparrow Hospital are in critical condition.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety spokesperson Chris Rozman confirmed at a press briefing Monday night that the incident began on campus began around 8:18 p.m. at Berkey Hall.  When police arrived at Berkey Hall they located several victims of the shooting, Rozman said. The incident moved to the Union building where there was another shooting immediately after.

There are at least five victims who have each been transported to the hospital and some victims have life threatening injuries, Rozman said. The suspect had last been seen leaving the Union on foot before police made contact with him

All campus activities are cancelled for the next 48 hours, including classes and sporting events.  There have been false reports of additional shootings or the suspects being seen in numerous locations, which are not accurate, Rozman said.

An additional briefing will be held at midnight with updated information.
