Michigan State University Police and Public Safety sent out an alert in which an individual reported a bomb threat at or near Fee Hall East Wing on Aug. 1.

MSUPD determined that there was no credible threat to campus and issued an all-clear at 2:55 p.m. Monday. However, Fee Hall will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

"Detectives with MSU Police and Public Safety are actively investigating this incident with our state and federal partners,” MSUPD Spokesperson Dana Whyte said in a statement “Out of an abundance of caution, we have asked that the building remain closed for the remainder of the day while we conduct a comprehensive search of the premises to ensure the safety of our campus community.”

Those at Fee Hall East Wing were asked to immediately evacuate. A human medicine class had evacuated the building when police arrived on the scene.

Students in the class were told that their classes were dismissed for the remainder of the day. K-9 units have been dispatched into the east wing, according to the department's Twitter page.

Students said they were mid-exam when the alert was sent out. Most said they had no other information besides to evacuate the building.

Following their investigation, MSUPD officers said on Twitter that this incident is related to other non-credible threats that have occurred on other college and university campuses across the country.

"We appreciate the assistance provided to our department during this incident by the Michigan State Police, East Lansing Police Department, Ingham County 911, and the FBI,” Whyte said in a statement. “We will provide an update when the area has been cleared and determined to be safe for re-entry.”

Any unattended packages, suspicious activity or persons should be reported to MSUPD at 517-355-2221.
