Strayhorn wrote a letter on July 29 resigning from his seat on the state Board of Education, just weeks after the lawsuit went public. According to the letter, his family will be moving to California due to educational and athletic openings that will better suit his three children.

Strayhorn has stayed connected to MSU as a color analyst for football games.

“The lawsuits aren't related to his work as an announcer,” MSU Deputy Spokesperson Dan Olsen said. “His role as an announcer is through Playfly Sports. They hire and maintain the announcer positions for MSU Athletics.”

Despite his relocation, Strayhorn plans to continue to broadcast MSU football, excluding the first game of the season due to a conflict with his son's football schedule.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced she is seeking a replacement for Strayhorn's seat. In 2020, he was elected to serve until 2028.

“At this point, I've confirmed with Playfly Sports that he is intending to be an announcer for the upcoming football season, and that's the extent of the information I have to share at this point,” Olsen said.
