Former Michigan State basketball star forward Miles Bridges has been charged with a felony domestic assault after an incident that left his wife injured.
Bridges, who now plays for the Charlotte Hornets, was arrested and held on a $130,000 bond on June 29. He was released hours later after posting the bond, according to Los Angeles County Jail records. His next court date is July 20.
According to a report from TMZ Sports, Bridges turned himself into a local Los Angeles jail after an incident on Tuesday. When police arrived, Bridges had left the scene.
Bridges' wife, Mychelle Johnson, posted on Instagram late Thursday night photos of her injuries as well as a copy of her medical report that included her list of injuries. Those injuries included assault by strangulation, a concussion, a broken nasal bone and more.
Bridges played for two seasons at Michigan State, averaging 17 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. Bridges was a part of the heralded recruiting class that included Cassius Winston, Joshua Langford and Nick Ward. In two seasons, Bridges led the team to two NCAA Tournaments but never further than the second round.
Bridges emerged as a star this season in the NBA and was entering free agency likely to demand near max, if not max, contract money in the $30 to 40-million per year range from his current team or other teams. This morning, the Hornets made a statement.
“The Charlotte Hornets are aware of the situation involving Miles Bridges,” the Charlotte Hornets said in a release. “We are in the process of gathering additional information. We will have no further comment at this time.”
