After five seasons behind the bench, Michigan State hockey Head Coach Danton Cole has been relieved of his duties.
According to an email from MSU communications, the decision was mutual.
“Over the last month, I spent time evaluating where we currently stand as a hockey program,” Michigan State Athletic Director Allen Haller said in a press release. “It’s become clear to me that it’s in the best interests of the program to make a change in leadership and begin a new era of Spartan hockey.”
Cole leaves the program with a 58-101-12 record. In that stretch, Michigan State never finished in the top half of the Big Ten standings, never made the NCAA Tournament and has failed to win a single game in the Big Ten Tournament.
Cole’s departure is yet another shakeup in what has been a tumultuous offseason for Michigan State hockey, with the roster undergoing major changes.
