Then-prenursing freshman Stephanie Stanley pins a racing number onto her shirt before the Shamrock 5K Run-Walk-Roll on March 16, 2013, inside Conrad Hall. The proceeds from the run help fund the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, or RCPD.

The 2022 Shamrock 5K will start at the MSU Auditorium on Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m.

Hosted by MSU Tower Guard, the 3.1-mile route will wrap around campus.

Registration for the public is $30 and $25 for MSU students.

“Everyone is eligible and encouraged to participate in the 5k and either walk, run, or roll,” Tower Guard President Ellie Friedman said in a direct message.  “Our goal is to make the event accessible and enjoyable, so while the race will be facilitated with timing, we choose to celebrate participation and togetherness rather than speed.”

Participants will receive a Shamrock 5K medal and will get to enjoy complimentary food and drinks, tours of Beaumont Tower, raffle tickets for special prizes, and pictures with Sparty.

People who registered before March 13 are guaranteed to receive a Shamrock Run-Walk-Roll T-shirt as well, Friedman said.

The Shamrock 5K has been a Tower Guard special event for several decades, and it is finally being brought back in person.

“5K is Tower Guard’s biggest fundraiser for our campus partner, the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, or RCPD, and each cohort chooses one of their initiatives to support through our fundraising efforts,” Friedman said in the message. “The 2021-2022 class has chosen the RCPD’s Empowerment Endowment, which aims to empower, motivate and promote the success of students and employees with disabilities.”

Tower Guard is a second-year student service organization and honor society devoted to advocating for both accessibility and inclusivity. Through their partnership with the RCPD, they strive to create accessible e-documents, host tutoring sessions, plan social events and more.

“We have the dual purpose of holding the key to Beaumont Tower and sharing its rich history,” Friedman said in the message.
