2023 four-star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. announced his commitment to Michigan State over Michigan and Illinois at the La Porte Invitational. Fears is the first player to commit to Michigan State’s 2023 class.

Fears is the fifth-ranked point guard and 26th ranked recruit overall in the 2023 recruiting class. The Joilet, Indiana native is the lead guard for the basketball powerhouse La Lumiere Prep in Indianapolis.

Fears is a dynamic, end-to-end point guard with strong vision and passing ability. Despite being just 6’1, Fears is a strong finisher around the rim and uses his speed to create opportunities for drives for layups or kickouts for open threes. He plays at a pace that is expected of MSU point guards under Head Coach Tom Izzo while still being the primary floor general for his team.

Fears will arrive at Michigan State in two years looking to step into the backcourt now occupied by junior guard Tyson Walker and sophomore guard A.J. Hoggard. When Fears arrives in 2023, Walker will have used his two years of eligibility and Hoggard will be entering his senior year. Fears will arrive in East Lansing with high expectations and an opportunity to contribute immediately.

Fears is the third commit that Michigan State has secured for the future. MSU has already picked up commitments from four-star forward Jaxon Kohler and four-star guard Trejuan Holloman in the 2022 class.
