Capital Area Transportation Authority, or CATA, has announced an extension in winter break service reductions.

The extension comes in response to surge of the Omicron variant, the university’s decision to hold classes virtually until Jan. 30 and an emerging bus driver shortage.

This extension affects on and off-campus routes as well as several Lansing-based routes. Reduced service levels affect the following routes:

MSU campus routes

Routes 30, 31, 33, 38 and 39 have begun service since Jan. 17. These routes will run at a 30-minute frequency on weekdays.

Route 32 will continue to operate at a 30-minute frequency on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Weekend bus routes will operate at normal service levels beginning Jan. 15.

Lot Link and Night Owl will operate as normal on campus. Lot Link operates 2 a.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday and 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends. Student fare is 60 cents with a valid student ID, and bus passes may be also used to pay.

Off-campus routes

Route 20 will continue to travel into Spartan Village until Feb. 6.

Routes 22-23 will run every 35-45 minutes with no change in Saturday service.

Route 24 will continue to operate at a 30-minute frequency until Feb. 6, going back to normal service.

Route 25 will run every 30 minutes with no change to weekend service.

Route 26 will continue to run every 23 minutes until 7:15 p.m., then every 45 minutes until 11:15 p.m. There is no late-night service or change in Sunday service.

CATA riders should note that real-time departure data on the Transit app, CATANow and their website is unreliable because of these service reductions. Riders are encouraged to call CATA customer service at 517-394-1000, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
