Michigan State Cornerbacks Coach Travares Tillman has taken a job with Georgia Tech, his alma mater, to be the Yellowjackets’ new defensive backs coach.

Tillman came to MSU as a part of Michigan State Head Coach Mel Tucker’s brand-new assistant coaching staff as a senior defensive assistant in 2020. He was promoted to cornerbacks coach for the 2021 season, working alongside MSU secondary coach Harlon Barnett.

Tillman has worked alongside Tucker since 2016 from Georgia to Colorado to East Lansing. Tillman will return to Georgia, his home state, where he got the start of his coaching career as a high school football coach in 2012.

“I’m proud and excited to return to my alma mater,” Tillman said via a Georgia Tech press release. “I am honored to be a part of a great lineage of defensive backs at Georgia Tech. I can’t wait to get to work with Coach Collins and the rest of the defensive staff to help develop the next generation of successful DBs and play winning defense on The Flats.”
