As Michigan State continues to navigate the transfer portal for newfound talent, shuffles are also being made on the coaching staff. Most notably, MSU running backs coach William Peagler is leaving East Lansing for a new position as the tight ends coach at Florida.
Peagler joined MSU, along with Head Coach Mel Tucker and offensive coordinator Jay Johnson, two years ago from Colorado. After sporting an abysmal rushing attack in 2020, Peagler helped flip Michigan State into one of the best running games in the nation on the back of junior running back Kenneth Walker III. He was critical in recruiting Walker to Michigan State as a transfer from Wake Forest.
And it certainly paid off with Walker breaking countless rushing records on his way to being named the Walter Camp Player of the Year, the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s top running back and Big Ten Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year.
Peagler will reunite with Florida Head Coach Billy Napier, who was hired by the Gators in November. Napier and Peagler coached together in 2018 at Louisiana-Lafayette, where the two helped the Ragin’ Cajuns reach a 7-7 record. Peagler will join the Gator program following the Peach Bowl next Thursday.
