Halloween is only a few weeks away, but the weather isn’t really screaming "Spooky Season." That’s why The State News has created a guide to Halloween movies that will certainly put you in a festive mood with films ranging from nostalgic Disney classics to paranormal horrors that may give you a hard time falling asleep at night. Trick or Treat!

Night One: "Girl vs. Monster"

This guide starts off with “Girl Vs. Monster,” a Disney Channel classic. It’s the perfect movie to kick off Spooky Season with just the right amount of nostalgia and suspense.

Night Two: "The Conjuring"

For a change of pace, the next night’s movie is the terror-filled horror movie class, “The Conjuring.” Did you know that this movie is actually based on a real family? If that doesn’t give you the heebie-jeebies, I don’t know what will.

Night Three: "Twitches"

Returning to our childhoods, we will be watching “Twitches.” As a bonus, you can also watch “Twitches Too” on the third night of 12 Nights of Halloween. Extra points if you watch it on your birthday, and double extra points if you’re watching it with a twin.

Night Four: "Hocus Pocus" and Night Five: "Nightmare on Elm Street"

Take it back another decade on the next night as you watch “Hocus Pocus” and yet another one the night after that as you join Nancy on her journey to discovering the mystery of Freddy Krueger in “Nightmare on Elm Street.”

Night Six: "The Autopsy of Jane Doe"

This next one is not necessarily Halloween-themed, but the supernatural film sure does scream scary. “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” follows the investigation of a dead body as the coroners witness a strange series of events emerge.

Night Seven: "Friday the 13th," Night Eight: "The Shining," Night Nine: "Lights Out" and Night Ten: "Insidious"

Caffeine might be a necessity for the next few days if horror movies tend to impede on your sleep schedule. Go to summer camp and attempt to stay alive after being brutally shot and stabbed in “Friday the 13th,” develop psychotic visions while trying to overcome writer's block in a creepy hotel in “The Shining,” find out why the dark was so scary as a kid in “Lights Out” and navigate a haunted home while attending to a comatose boy in “Insidious."

Night 11: "Halloweentown"

Take a breath of fresh air as you watch “Halloweentown,” another childhood classic. Follow Marnie’s journey to discovering she comes from a line of witches and is on a mission to save her newfound home- the movie’s namesake, Halloweentown.

Night 12: "Halloween"

And lastly, what better time to watch a movie literally titled “Halloween” than the day of Halloween? Whether you are handing out candy at home or throwing a party with friends, be sure to put on your costume and watch this movie at some point on the 31st. End off 12 Nights of Halloween by rooting for a vigilante mob as they try to stop killer Michael Myers- or will you be rooting for Michael Myers?
