Stabbing in downtown East Lansing: 'Not a random incident,' ELPD reports

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 26, a fight occurred near the Ann Street Plaza, Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez of East Lansing Police Department wrote in an email.

During the confrontation, an individual was stabbed, causing significant yet non-life-threatening injuries. The individual was then transported to the hospital for further care.

A suspect has been identified and put into custody. ELPD detectives will be presenting the case to Ingham County Prosecutor's Office for review.

This is not believed to be a random act, Gonzalez wrote.

The incident remains an open and active investigation.
