Alan Haller has been promoted to Michigan State Athletic Director and will replace Bill Beekman, who will transition to be the new Vice President of Strategic Relations after pledging to step down on Aug. 5.
Haller's promotion was unanimously approved by the MSU Board of Trustees and was announced at their meeting on Sept. 1.
Haller has been approved by the Michigan State Board of Trustees and Michigan State President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. in a meeting this afternoon.
Haller was most recently known as the Assistant Vice President and Deputy Athletic Director, having originally joined the staff in 2010. Haller had served as Beekman's second-in-command since 2019.
This will be Haller's 11th year with the athletic department. He played a role in the past two football head coach search committees, producing Mark Dantonio and now Mel Tucker, as well as being apart of Michigan State Football in 1988 as a student-athlete.
Haller has a criminal justice degree from MSU and a master's degree in human resources from Central Michigan. Prior, he spent 13 years with the MSU Police Department, ending at the rank of lieutenant.
Haller will have a lot on his plate, needing to carry the department out of the COVID-19 pandemic while operating at a $30 million deficit, the Detroit Free Press reported. In addition, Haller will continue to handle the controversy surrounding Michigan State's swim and dive team that is set to be dissolved.
