A glimpse at MSU's homecoming week events

After a full virtual homecoming week last year, MSU will be hosting a blend of virtual and in-person events for the week of Homecoming 2021. The opening festivities will begin this Monday, Sept. 27.

Weeklong Events

Students can participate in MSU’s Homecoming tradition, Sparty’s Flag Find and be the first to find Sparty’s hidden flag on campus. Clues will be posted daily at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 27

The University Activities Board, or UAB, will be holding a Paint the Rock session from 6 to 8 p.m. Painting the rock with UAB on campus is one of MSU’s oldest traditions.

Tuesday, Sept. 28

UAB's Spartan Picnic will allow students to chat with friends and enjoy a picnic at Demonstration Field from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 29

African Alumni and Students will hold a Town Hall over Zoom from 12 to 1:30 p.m. For more information, contact Damaris Choti.

UAB will also be hosting a meet and greet with Zeke the Wonder Dog. Head to the Union Ballroom at 7 to 9 p.m. to create a Zeke the dog and take pictures with Zeke as well.

Exercise is Medicine On Campus Initiative, or EIMOC, will be holding a friendly walking competition between MSU and other universities nationwide at the Demonstration Hall Field from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No registration is required and all faculty, staff, students and alumni are welcome.

Thursday, Sept. 30

Join Dr. Barbara Ross-Lee as she discusses her career journey livestreamed via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Ross-Lee will share the challenges that she faced throughout her work experience and address topics related to medical education and the future of the health care industry. UAB will also hold a Family Feud Tournament from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Union Ballroom. Join the tournament for a chance to win free prizes. 

The College of Social Science Women’s Leadership Institute will be hosting The Future of Work and Leadership panel from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wharton Center. Listen to various women leaders’ journeys through their bumps and accomplishments along the road to success in the professional world.

Sponsored by The School of Hospitality Business Alumni Association, they will hold a Mentor Program Kickoff at the Minskoff Pavilion Multi-Purpose Room. The kickoff is free and only open to Hospitality Business alumni and students. It will run from 7 to 9 p.m. and reservation is required. RSVP to hawks@msu.edu or (517) 353-9747.

Friday, Oct. 1

The School of Hospitality Business Alumni Association will host a free board meeting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Hospitality Business board members, faculty, staff and student leaders. Reservation is required; RSVP to loeffler@broad.msu.edu.

Students can create Spartan tie-dye shirts outside of the MSU Union. UAB will be hosting the Homecoming Tie Dye Event from 2 to 5 p.m. while supplies last.

From 2 to 4 p.m. at the Summer Circle Courtyard, the College of Arts & Letters will hold a Homecoming Sweet & Greet with Michigan-made treats and drinks and raffle prizes from the raffle prize wheel. All students, faculty, alumni and friends are invited. RSVP here.

There will be ribbon-cutting along with an open house for the Billman Pavilion. Ribbon-cutting will be from 3 to 3:30 p.m. and the open house will follow from 3:30 to 5 p.m. For more information, contact Lisa Wilton at wiltonlk@msu.edu.

The Residential College in the Arts and Humanities will host a tailgate at the West Circle Complex Lawn (MASP Courtyard) from 6-9 p.m. Contact Kate McGormley for more information.

The MSU Homecoming Parade will take place throughout Downtown East Lansing and it will be livestreamed starting at 6 p.m.

MSU Men’s Soccer vs. Penn State will be at the DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and purchase tickets online to attend.

An After-Parade Tailgate hosted by The School of Hospitality Business Alumni Association is open to Hospitality Business alumni, students and faculty/staff only with no charge. The tailgate will be from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. at the Broad College Complex Ground Floor. Reservation is required; RSVP to loeffler@broad.msu.edu.

Saturday, Oct. 2

MSU Black Alumni will be hosting their Annual Meeting at 9:30 a.m. virtually. They will also be hosting a tailgate at Cherry Lane Park from 1 to 9 p.m. Tailgate is $10 along with an optional $20 roundtrip shuttle service.

There will be an Open Practice at the Breslin Center hosted by Michigan State Basketball. Head Coach Suzy Merchant and the women’s basketball team will have an open practice at 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. Head Coach Tom Izzo and the men’s basketball team will arrive afterward. Doors open at 2 p.m. and admission is free.

The Michigan State vs. Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Homecoming football game will take place at the Spartan Stadium. Buy tickets online for the game; kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
