The Dairy Store is back.

Spartans can count to bond on one shared experience this move-in weekend — commiseration over the sweltering temperatures everywhere on campus.

After closing temporarily due to pandemic-related financial reasons in September 2020, MSU’s beloved Dairy Store reopened Aug. 28 during move-in weekend.

The Anthony Hall location will be open for limited hours for the fall semester, opening on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Instead of the usual full MSU-made selection, the Dairy Store will have a limited menu of 12 rotating flavors of hand-scooped ice cream in cups or cones.

Saturday dozens of Spartans were lined up outside of the building in eager anticipation.

Offering a limited menu of 12 rotating flavors of hand-scooped ice cream available in cups or cones, the Dairy Store helped Spartans cool down in the heat wave that paired move-in weekend.

The ice cream received glowing reviews all-around.

“Especially with it being so hot this weekend, this was a great refresher,” criminal justice freshman Whitley Ames said.

Although the Dairy Store is currently operating with part-time hours and a limited menu, management hopes to return to regular hours and the full menu once they start getting more management staff.

They previously opened in mid-August and received a warm welcome from customers excited to enjoy the MSU-exclusive ice cream.

“It’s just an iconic thing to do on campus," Director of MSU Product Center Mollie Woods said. "It’s a lot of fun. We’re happy to be a part of the campus reopening, and we’ve had great support from the dean, great support from President Stanley just to get this back open as students come on. So, we hope families and students will come and enjoy what we have here.”

Customers will be required to wear masks inside the building.
