—Gabe Brown and Malik Hall have become the first Michigan State men's basketball players to ink a Name, Image and Likeness deal in the history of the program.
Brown and Hall are being paid to appear and sign autographs for fans at the Pro Sports Zone in Livonia, Michigan on Aug. 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
This is the first time that MSU basketball players have been able to capitalize on the newly-passed law in July that allows college athletes to profit directly from their fame through college athletics.
“We are excited to usher in the new era of NIL by making history with a basketball program and Coach who has always done things the right way,” Detroit-based Attorney and General Counsel of Parlay Sports & Entertainment Steve Haney said. “...for Gabe and Malik, this is an opportunity for them to monetize their name, image and likeness and take advantage of these exciting new financial opportunities.”
Haney represents many of the NBA’s top current players.
Brown and Hall are expected to be leaders for the Spartans this year as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season for MSU in 2020-21. This is not expected to be the last NIL deal for them or other members of the basketball team as they begin to navigate the new world of college athlete compensation.
